This unusual vase is made of intentionally bubbly green glass. It is enamelled on two sides with a striking pink feather fronds with a gold and blue dot floral decoration. Some of the gold shows wear. The vase is 8.5" high and has a nice fat bulbous shape. We believe it to be hand-blown, and likely Bohemian in origin, from the late 19th or early 20th century. If you know more about this pretty vase, please let us know!

Mid-century Modern 1960's Vases - Individually priced - see below

midvases midvases midvases midvases midvases

Here is a grouping of three mid-century modern vases dating from the 1960's. They show strong profile lines and color, favored over ornamentation in mid-century modern design, and still popular with minimalists today.

The large dark amber brown vase is striking and heavy, standing 12" high. It is not marked as to maker, but it strongly resembles Finnish Riihimaki glass. This vase is item # GL359 priced at $65.

The next two vases could function equally well as candleholders or as bud vases, or they could simply stand alone as sculptural art pieces.

The orange vase is cased with clear glass on the outside and stands 6" high. It is marked with a paper Hirschberg label. This German company was active in the 1960's. This orange vase is item # GL307 priced at $25.

The white vase stands 7.5" high and is also cased with clear glass on the outside. The similarity of technique and shape would indicate that this vase is also from this German maker. This vase is item # GL358 priced at $25.

Davidson Cloud Glass Art Deco Vase - Item # GL261 - $ 95

davidsonpurple2

Here is an Art Deco era (1920's - 30's) vase in amethyst cloud glass with swirling tortoise shell effect, glossy on the outer surface and matte inside. It was made by the British firm Davidson. Art Nouveau Iridescent Glass Vase with Pink Interior - Items # GL344 - $ 95

bronzepink bronzepink bronzepink

This iridescent glass vase with pink interior is Art Nouveau in concept and dates around 1900.

The vase is mould blown with hand finished "petals" and it has an unfinished pontil mark under the base. It stands about 6" high.

The glass is iridescent bronze in color, with some slight wear under the collar where it has been handled over the years. This wear reflects normal use and not abuse, and does not detract from the pretty appearance of the vase.

We believe the vase to be Bohmenian of Loetz type, but we cannot attribute it to a specific manufacturer. If you can pin down a manufacturer, please let us know!

cremax1 cremaxplatter

We have a couple of individual pieces of this glassware in addition. Please inquire.

Art Deco Czech Spatter Art Glass Vase - Item # GL333 - $ 65

czech

A very colorful Art Deco era vase from Czechoslovakia. This type of art glass is called spatter, or sometimes "end of day". However it was not made of scrap frit at the end of day, but deliberately designed to be colorful and festive. This vase has deep cobalt blue at the base and vibrant oranges and reds at the top. It goes surprisingly well with mid-century decor which utilizes the same bright colors.

The vase stands almost 7" high and is quite rotund. It really makes a bold statement.

It is acid etched with the Baccarat France logo on the base and is also engraved Baccarat on one edge. We believe this piece is in the Paule line from Baccarat but we are not sure. We would love to know!

Hand-blown Fry Candlesticks - Item # GL296 - $ 300

fry fry

We attribute these candlesticks to the Ohio company Fry, although they share many characteristics with Carder era Steuben and would be from the same time period (1920's).

They are low and stable for an intimate dinner. A base with controlled bubbles is capped off with green random threading at the top flaring edge of the candle stick socket. There is an unfinished pontil mark up under the raised base. They are unsigned.

A great example of early twentieth century American glass blowing.

Steuben Blue Aurene Ruffled Bowl - Item # GL106 - $ 1100

blueaurene1 blueaurene2 blueaurene3

Blue aurene is a favorite of collectors of early Carder era Steuben. This bowl is large at almost 7" across and standing 2" high. It would be an early piece dating between 1910 and 1930. The bowl has the desirable strong silvery blue upper surface with onion-skin stretch marks at the edges. The under edge is a shiny darker blue and the contrast is quite beautiful.

The base is signed Aurene 138. There is one tiny, pin-head size loss of surface at the upper edge due to a bubble burst and one small indented bubble in the bowl itself. These are often found in hand-made glass. The bottom of the bowl is in good condition with no wear marks.

Steuben Decorated Verre de Soie Ruffled Bowl - SOLD

vdsdec vdsdec

This sweet little bowl is an early example of Frederick Carder's favorite glass, which he called Verre de Soie or "silk glass" because of its soft feel and high sheen.

The bowl has pulled feather decoration which is rare on verre de soie. The pulled feather decoration is opaque white and clear blue.

The bowl measures 4" high and about 4" wide with 4 flutes at the top rim. The base has a ground and probably polished pontil mark and slight wear appropriate for age.

The bowl is unsigned as you would expect, since verre de soie is rarely signed, but we have had confirmation from the good folks in Corning that this is indeed a rare Steuben form.

Steuben Ivrene Candlesticks - Item # GL249 - $ 600

ivrenestix

Here are a pair of graceful Carder Steuben candlesticks. They date from about 1930. They are made of ivrene glass, sometimes called white aurene due to its firey opalescent surfaces. They are about 5" high and about 3.5" wide.

Steuben Ivory Vase - Item # GL107 - $ 300

Shadevase

The ivory glass shade vase was made by Steuben in Corning N.Y. in the 1920's when the factory was directed by Frederick Carder. The shade vase is hand blown in a rib mold which gives a luscious optic rib effect to the ivory glass. The name shade vase comes from the practical nature of Mr. Carder who reused molds from his lamp shade business to make closed bottom vases. The vase has a polished pontil mark and is unsigned as is typical of Carder Steuben ivory glass. This beautiful, translucent, ivory colored glass is distinctively Steuben and belongs to the jade series of Steuben colors. The vase is 5" high.

Steuben Shot Glass - Item # GL99 - $ 75

shotglass

Here is a cute little hand-blown shot glass made by the Frederick Carder era Steuben Company in Corning NY in the 1920's (Gardner shape 6333).

It is made of Spanish green glass which has random bubbles and outer reeding or threading at the top area. The glass is not signed, which is common for Steuben colored crystal. It has a small unfinished pontil mark on the base which is concave somewhat, so that the pontil mark does not contact the furniture surface. The glass is about 2.5" high and would make a great little gift for the shot glass collector or the Steuben collector.

Early Venetian Glass Dish - Item # GL198 - $ 125

salviati3

We are offering a mold blown, quilted Venetian glass dish with green glass (possibly vaseline type) rigaree decoration. The dish also has an opalescent band and cranberry interior. The cranberry color has a granular appearance which we understand is often seen in the older Venetian pieces.

The dish is 6.5" wide at the top and the ruffle is 2" deep. The dish has a ground (finished) pontil mark.

We believe that this pieces is antique, dating from the late Victorian period or early 20th century and probably by the Salviati Company.

These candle holders really sparkle and are perfect to dress your special occasion table.

The bowl measures 10" at the rim and is 4.5" deep. The glass has a faint color, not quite smoke and not quite blue. There is a tiny pin-head size imperfection in the glass which is not noticeable with normal use.

Art Glass Centerpiece Vase - Item # GL352 - $ 45

chaletcanada chaletcanada chaletcanada

Here is an elegant art glass centerpiece in a typical mid-century olive green and amber colors cased with clear glass. The vase measures about 45 cm across the long direction. Note how the tips overlap which is a nice design feature.

We are attributing this piece to Chalet Canada, based on the form and the four lobed base. This example does not have the acid etched Chalet mark. We removed some old felt from the base to check, and discovered the roughness on the base that you see in the last photo, possibly resulting from burst bubbles during annealing at the time of manufacture.

Pair of English Opalescent Spill Vases - Item # GL105 - $ 500

opal opal opal

Here is a rare pair of thorny stem vases with opalescent bands standing 6.5" high. Certainly English and dating about 1870, their maker is difficult to pin-point. The opalescence is reminiscent of early Powell / Whitefriars, while the thorny stem and base suggest Stevens and Williams. Going out on a limb, we give the nod to John Walsh Walsh, the talented Victorian English glass-maker with the mischievous name.

silverbowl silverbowl

Vaseline and Opalescent Victorian Art Glass Vase - Item # GL7 - $ 95

flowervase flowervase

Here is a Bohemian vase with possible Loetz origin, dating from around 1895. The vase is blown from green vaseline glass with applied, hand-tooled, opalescent fronds at the top, giving it a very Art Nouveau appearance. It is about 5.5" high.

Do you notice that the vase resembles a lamp shade upside down? We are convinced that the manufacturer of the vase also made lamp shades in the same technique.

The vase has a ground and polished pontil mark in the base, and a very partial, paper label with old hand-written ink writing (not decipherable).

Antique Victorian Cranberry Stems - Item # GL173 - $ 35 each

EAPG Lotus and Serpent Creamer - Item # GL41 - $ 65

serpent1

fishface

This Early American Pressed Glass (EAPG) creamer is in the Lotus and Serpent pattern (~1875 from the Burlington Glass Works in Ontario Canada according to Unitt's "Treasury of Canadian Glass"). It is a charming rustic pattern made with and without the "serpent". It has never been reproduced in modern times according to the Unitt book.

Our American colleagues refer to this pattern as Garden of Eden and claim an earlier date ~1865 from an Eastern US source, likely the Jefferson glass company. It is possible that molds were bought and sold or that popular designs were copied. Like most EAPG, this pieces carries no maker's mark. The pattern is quite rare and all figural EAPG patterns are desirable.

The creamer stands 6 inches high. Note the charming details of the rustic handle and the cute serpent's face in the second photo.

EAPG Good Boy Child's Cup - Item # GL42 - $ 25

goodboy goodboy

This Early American Pressed Glass child's mug is in the documented Good Boy pattern. There was also a Good Girl matching cup that was available at the time (about 1880), but no mugs for bad children. Our mug is in an olive green color glass that was fairly common at that date. A cute addition to your Victorian glass collection.

EAPG Higbee Rose Bowls - Items # GL237 and GL242 - $ 25 each

higbee higbee

Item # GL237 is an early American pressed glass rosebowl marked with the molded bee mark for the Higbee Company. We think this pattern is called Hawaiian lei or Gala. The bowl is about 6" in diameter.

Item # GL242 is another Bee marked Higbee rose bowl of about the same size as the first. This one has broad molded panels which emphasize the clariy of this antique glass, and a rayed or star base.

Higbee rose bowls date from about 1910 and are perfectly sturdy enough for modern living.

Small Heisey Glass Bowl or Nappy with Silver Overlay - Item # GL131 - $40

silverheisey silverheisey

We have a strong local collecting interest in Heisey glass in our area because of the relatives of the American family who migrated north to Canada. The Canadian family name is usually spelt Heise.

This little nappy or bowl is oval at the top edge, forming indented molded hand grips underneath. It measures about 5" at the longest cross-section at the top edge and stands about1.25" high. The silver is in good shape being an overlay rather than a thin deposit. The bowl is marked with the diamond H symbol.
